quote[0]="
Major Depression—the Joy Stealer: How to Reclaim your Life

  Major depression is one of the biggest joy stealers in life. The most severe category of clinical depression, major depression can be triggered by any of three causes .

First, a major trauma in your life can set off a major depression. A severe loss like the death of a loved one, a divorce, a job loss, or other significantly dramatic life experience can start an episode of major depression. or setback or other trauma can trigger a major depression.

Second, you can develop major depression slowly over time if you experience a number of personal disappointments or life problems.

Third, you can simply manifest major depression seemingly out of nowhere. This happens when you develop a chemical imbalance in your brain function. Genetics can also be a cause of this type of depression.

If you’re lucky, you’ll suffer major depression only once in your lifetime. Known as single episode depression, this kind of one-time depression generally responds well to treatment, either medical or alternative.

Unfortunately, many people experience recurring depression. They suffer for weeks or months or even years and then respond to treatment or get well practically overnight. They’ll experience months or years depression-free and then begin feeling depressed again. This type of depression is also treatable, but depression treatment for recurring depression is more complicating and less exact.

When a person suffers from major depression, no matter what the cause, she will struggle with everyday tasks. Getting out of bed in the morning is a major struggle. Focusing is difficult. Pleasure is a thing of the past. The sufferer feels alone and hopeless. Life seems meaningless and purposeless.

So how do you cope with major depression?

You basically have two choices. You can either ride it out and allow it to pass naturally or you can seek depression treatment.
If you’re suffering depression as a result of a major trauma, riding it out is a possible option. Even so, it’s an option that has risks.

Depression that’s caused by trauma may start with a reaction to life events, but it can become chemical. When this happens, the depression may linger far past when you think you should have recovered from your trauma. This lingering depression can go on and on if you don’t get depression treatment.

How long do you want to be without joy in your life?

The smart response to any kind of major depression is depression treatment. Depending on your preferences, either seek medical help and get depression medicine or use alternative therapies like natural depression supplements, energy healing, and depression self care.

Talking through the problems and trauma in your life can help you heal depression. Get therapy or ask for help from loved ones. Don’t suffer through a major depression alone. Keeping your dark despair bottled up inside will only make major depression worse.

No matter what causes your major depression, you can’t afford to let it stay around any longer than necessary. Choose at least one form of depression treatment and make it a daily part of your life. Prioritizing your mental health care will help you heal major depression more quickly.

Major depression robs life of joy. To reclaim your life, take steps to banish major depression.
"
  quote[1]="
Take Zoloft, Paxil, Or Prozac? New Health Alert!

There is nothing on this earth more valuable than your child. The feeling of holding your child for the first time is an amazing experience beyond words.

We all want the best for our children but new research shows that drugs intended to help moms may cause a fatal condition in infants.

Every year 12-18 million Americans are treated with anti-depressants. Zoloft, Prozac, and Paxil are some of the common ones as they often appear in advertising. Those anti-depressants are just a few examples of a large class of drugs known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) which aim to correct neurological chemical imbalances.

Those kinds of drugs were recently linked to the dangerous condition, Pediatric Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension when they were taken as the mother was pregnant.

The condition causes the Pulmonary artery, which is responsible for blood flow to the lungs, to constrict which significantly elevates blood pressure. This can create fatal conditions if it is not treated properly.

According to the study, mothers who had taken SSRIs during the last half of their terms had a significantly increased rate (6x the average) of having their children develop the disease.

The condition is estimated to affect 2-6 children per 1,000 live births a year with speculation that it accounts for a large percentage of neonatal deaths.

Treatment varies based on the severity of the condition. Daily medication and constant monitoring of the child is required but in more severe cases, children may be required to wear external devices to deliver medicine.

If you are on anti-depressants and are pregnant or plan to have a child, please contact your doctor.

Note: This article is not meant to infer a patient doctor relationship. quote[2]="
Suicide Attempts Link Statistics About Teen Suicide and Teen Depression

   Teen suicide is becoming more common every year in South America. In fact, only car accidents and homicides (murders) kill more people between the ages of 18 and 30, making suicide the third leading cause of death in teens and overall in youths ages 14 to 22 years old.

       Thinking About Suicide It’s common for teens to think about death to some degree. Teens’ thinking capabilities have matured in a way that allows them to think more deeply - about their existence in the world, the meaning of life, and other profound questions and ideas. Unlike kids, teens realize that death is permanent. They may begin to consider spiritual or philosophical questions such as what happens after people die. To some, death, and even suicide, may seem poetic (consider Romeo and Juliet, for example). To others, death may seem frightening or be a source of worry. For many, death is mysterious and beyond our human experience and understanding.

   Thinking about suicide goes beyond normal ideas teens may have about death and life. Wishing to be dead, thinking about suicide, or feeling helpless and hopeless about how to solve life’s problems are signs that a teen may be at risk - and in need of help and support. Beyond thoughts of suicide, actually making a plan or carrying out a suicide attempt is even more serious.

   What makes some teens begin to think about suicide - and even worse, to plan or do something with the intention of ending their own lives? One of the biggest factors is depression. Suicide attempts are usually made when a person is seriously depressed or upset. A teen who is feeling suicidal may see no other way out of problems, no other escape from emotional pain, or no other way to communicate their desperate unhappiness.

   The Link Between Depression and Suicide
The majority of suicide attempts and suicide deaths happen among teens with depression. Consider these statistics about teen suicide and teen depression: about 1% of all teens attempts suicide and about 1% of those suicide attempts results in death (that means about 1 in 10,000 teens dies from suicide). But for adolescents who have depressive illnesses, the rates of suicidal thinking and behavior are much higher. Most teens who have depression think about suicide, and between 15% and 30% of teens with serious depression who think about suicide go on to make a suicide attempt.

   Keep in mind that most of the time for most teens depression is a passing mood. The sadness, loneliness, grief, and disappointment we all feel at times are normal reactions to some of the struggles of life. With the right support, some resilience, an inner belief that there will be a brighter day, and decent coping skills, most teens can get through the depressed mood that happens occasionally when life throws them a curve ball.

   But sometimes depression doesn’t lift after a few hours or a few days. Instead it lasts, and it can seem too heavy to bear. When someone has a depressed or sad mood that is intense and lingers almost all day, almost every day for 2 weeks or more, it may be a sign that the person has developed major depression. Major depression, sometimes called clinical depression, is beyond a passing depressed mood - it is the term mental health professionals use for depression that has become an illness in need of treatment. Another form of serious depression is called bipolar disorder, which includes extreme low moods (major depression) as well as extreme high moods (these are called manic episodes).

   Though children can experience depression, too, teens are much more vulnerable to major depression and bipolar illness. Hormones and sleep cycles, which both change dramatically during adolescence, have an effect on mood and may partly explain why teens (especially girls) are particularly prone to depression. Believe it or not, as many as 20% of all teens have had depression that’s this severe at some point. The good news is that depression is treatable - most teens get better with the right help.

   It’s not hard to see why serious depression and suicide are connected. Serious depression (with both major depression and bipolar illness) involves a long-lasting sad mood that doesn’t let up, and a loss of pleasure in things you once enjoyed. It also involves thoughts about death, negative thoughts about oneself, a sense of worthlessness, a sense of hopelessness that things could get better, low energy, and noticeable changes in appetite or sleep.

   Depression also distorts a person’s viewpoint, allowing them to focus only on their failures and disappointments and to exaggerate these negative things. Depressed thinking can convince someone there is nothing to live for. The loss of pleasure that is part of depression can seem like further evidence that there’s nothing good about the present. The hopelessness can make it seem like there will be nothing good in the future; helplessness can make it seem like there’s nothing you can do to change things for the better. And the low energy that is part of depression can make every problem (even small ones) seem like too much to handle.

   When major depression lifts because a person gets the proper therapy or treatment, this distorted thinking is cleared and they can find pleasure, energy, and hope again. But while someone is seriously depressed, suicidal thinking is a real concern. When teens are depressed, they often don’t realize that the hopelessness they feel can be relieved and that hurt and despair can be healed.

   What Else Puts Teens at Risk for Suicide?
In addition to depression, there are other emotional conditions that can put teens at greater risk for suicide - for example, girls and guys with conduct disorder are at higher risk. This may be partly because teens with conduct disorder have problems with aggression and may be more likely than other teens to act in aggressive or impulsive ways to hurt themselves when they are depressed or under great stress. The fact that many teens with conduct disorder also have depression may partly explain this, too. Having both serious depression and conduct disorder increases a teen’s risk for suicide.

   Substance abuse problems also put teens at risk for suicidal thinking and behavior. Alcohol and some drugs have depressive effects on the brain. Misuse of these substances can bring on serious depression, especially in teens prone to depression because of their biology, family history, or other life stressors.

   Besides depressive effects, alcohol and drugs alter a person’s judgement. They interfere with the ability to assess risk, make good choices, and think of solutions to problems. Many suicide attempts occur when a teen is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Teens with substance abuse problems often have serious depression or intense life stresses, too, further increasing their risk.

   Life Stress and Suicidal Behavior
Let’s face it - being a teen is not easy for anyone. There are many new social, academic, and personal pressures. And for teens who have additional problems to deal with, life can feel even more difficult. Some teens have been physically or sexually abused, have witnessed one parent abusing another at home, or live with lots of arguing and conflict at home. Others witness violence in their neighborhoods. Many teens have parents who divorce, and others may have a parent with a drug or alcohol addiction.

   Some teens are struggling with concerns about sexuality and relationships, wondering if their feelings and attractions are normal, if they will be loved and accepted, or if their changing bodies are developing normally. Others struggle with body image and eating problems, finding it impossible to reach a perfect ideal, and therefore having trouble feeling good about themselves. Some teens have learning problems or attention problems that make it hard for them to succeed in school. They may feel disappointed in themselves or feel they are a disappointment to others.

   All these things can affect mood and cause some people to feel depressed or to turn to alcohol or drugs for a false sense of soothing. Without the necessary coping skills or support, these social stresses can increase the risk of serious depression and, therefore, of suicidal ideas and behavior. Teens who have had a recent loss or crisis or who had a family member who committed suicide may be especially vulnerable to suicidal thinking and behavior themselves.

   Guns and Suicide Risk
Finally, having access to guns is extremely risky for any teen who has any of the other risk factors. Depression, anger, impulsivity, life stress, substance abuse, feelings of alienation or loneliness - all these factors can place a teen at major risk for suicidal thoughts and behavior. Availability of guns along with one or more of these risk factors is a deadly equation. Many teen lives could be saved by making sure those who are at risk don’t have access to guns.

   Different Types of Suicidal Behaviors
Teen girls attempt suicide far more often (about nine times more often) than teen guys, but guys are about four times more likely to succeed when they try to kill themselves. This is because teen guys tend to use more deadly methods, like guns or hanging. Girls who try to hurt or kill themselves tend to use overdoses of medications or cutting. More than 60% of teen suicide deaths happen with a gun. But suicide deaths can and do occur with pills and other harmful substances and methods.

   Sometimes a depressed person plans a suicide in advance. Many times, though, suicide attempts are not planned in advance, but happen impulsively, in a moment of feeling desperately upset. Sometimes a situation like a breakup, a big fight with a parent, an unintended pregnancy, being harmed by abuse or rape, being outed by someone else, or being victimized in any way can cause a teen to feel desperately upset. In situations such as these, teens may fear humiliation, rejection, social isolation, or some terrible consequence they think they can’t handle. If a terrible situation feels too overwhelming, a teen may feel that there is no way out of the bad feeling or the consequences of the situation. Suicide attempts can occur under conditions like this because, in desperation, some teens - at least for the moment - see no other way out and they impulsively act against themselves.

   Sometimes teens who feel or act suicidal mean to die and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes a suicide attempt is a way to express the deep emotional pain they’re feeling in hopes that someone will get the message they are trying to communicate.

   Even though a teen who makes a suicide attempt may not actually want or intend to die, it is impossible to know whether an overdose or other harmful action they may take will actually result in death or cause a serious and lasting illness that was never intended. Using a suicide attempt to get someone’s attention or love or to punish someone for hurt they’ve caused is never a good idea. People usually don’t really get the message, and it often backfires on the teen. It’s better to learn other ways to get what you need and deserve from people. There are always people who will value, respect, and love you - sure, sometimes it takes time to find them - but it is important to value, respect, and love yourself, too.

   Unfortunately, teens who attempt suicide as an answer to problems tend to try it more than once. Though some depressed teens may first attempt suicide around age 13 or 14, suicide attempts are highest during middle adolescence. Then by about age 17 or 18, the rate of teen suicide attempts lowers dramatically. This may be because with maturity, teens have learned to tolerate sad or upset moods, have learned how to get support they need and deserve, and have developed better coping skills to deal with disappointment or other difficulties.
"
  quote[3]="
Paxil Suicides: What You Should Know

It is now being discovered that the antidepressant medication known as Paxil is more deadly than helpful. As the matter of fact, Paxil has recently been given the street name of “suicide” pills. This is because it has been proven that children and adults who took Paxil for their depression or other mental related illness had increased thoughts of suicide and violence.

  The law requires that drug companies disclose all information related to the risks of a specific medication to the Food and Drug Administration. It was recently discovered that the GlaxoSmithKline Company, which manufactures Paxil, concealed and misrepresented information about the side effects and addicting elements of Paxil.

  It is believed that this was done in order to boost the sales of the drug. Not only did it boost the sales of Paxil, it also caused thousands of patients who took Paxil to experience increased thoughts of suicide and violence; and unfortunately, many acted upon these thoughts.

  According to reports conducted by the IMR (Investigative Medication Routine), between the years 1993 and 2002, there were 19,000 persons in the United States who were victims of Paxil-induced suicides. That is a rate of about 6,000 per year. Studies have shown that the suicidal rate while taking Paxil has doubled and even tripled all over the world.

  It is especially increased in children under the age of eighteen who took Paxil. Reports state that young children experienced suicidal thoughts, wild, out of control behavior, hallucinations, and hospitalization while taking Paxil.

  It was estimated that approximately twenty to forty percent of the patients, including children who took Paxil had side effects severe enough to terminate the medication. However, when they terminated the medication, they were likely to experience withdraw symptoms because of the addicting elements of Paxil.

  Because of the high number of Paxil-induced suicides around the world, GlaxoSmithKline, the British pharmaceutical giant, is now facing potential criminal prosecution for allegedly failing to inform the Food and Drug Administration and British drug authorities about the suicidal risk related to taking Paxil.

  Have you thought about suicide or other violent actions while taking Paxil? Do you know someone who has thought about or actually committed suicide while taking Paxil? If you answered yes, then you should speak with an experienced Paxil attorney as soon as possible because you may be entitled to compensatory damages. A Paxil lawyer will be able to explain the possibility of a lawsuit with you and inform you of your rights regarding the claim.
"
  quote[4]="
Looking at the Symptoms of Depression

The tell-tale symptoms of depression People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help one’s self or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

There are actually a lot of symptoms of depression that depressed people may actually posses but they don’t have to suffer from each and every one of them before you actually help them get diagnosed and be treated for this illness. Also, since symptoms of depression actually vary, the time of their “attacks” varies as well.

Here are some common examples of symptoms of depression:

Prolonged period of sadness or not feeling “up to it,” people who are always feeling not in the mood, who’d rather mope around the house and feel sorry for one’s self is the best example for this symptom of depression.

Feels hopeless, perennial pessimist: speaking of feeling sorry for one’s self, another common symptom of depression is when a person actually feels like he/she has nothing to look forward to in his or her life. As for being the perennial pessimist, those who show this symptom of depression are usually very negative about things, again, the feeling of hopelessness comes in to mind.

Guilt-driven, loss of self-worth and helplessness: other symptoms of depression that can be easily seen on people who prefer to mope around all day long are these. Whenever a person feels so guilty over something, that actually makes one a very sad person who feels like he or she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Thus, the loss of self-worth, if that person feels like he or she isn’t worthy of being happy or enjoying one’s self then that’s clear tell-tale symptom of depression. Helplessness also contribute to being depressed, when assuming that things won’t simply go your way, it’s already a clear saying that you have absolutely no hope in your body at all.

Isn’t interested in finding or taking pleasure; just dropping the hobbies as well as the other things that one used to enjoy: this tell-tale symptom of depression just shows how depressed a person can be, if one is actually too sad to take pleasure even in the very things that one loves then that person is seriously lacking something, rather, that person might well have caught the depression bug.

Fatigue, always tired: people suffering from depression, since they’ve lost whatever interest in life that they may have had before are actually lacking of physical energy at all times, if one would prefer to just mope around, probably won’t even eat not get enough sleep, a depressed person may well be on their way to not just a mental illness but depression can actually be terrible for one’s physical health as well.

Having trouble concentrating, having bad memory and is indecisive: a person who is suffering from depression easily gives away this tell-tale symptom of depression. Wherein one’s lack of interest with regards to the outside world or for just about anything for that matter can lead to that person’s inability to lose track of things and actually not be able to remember things that happened or what other people said. Lack of interest actually makes depressed people very inattentive.

There are actually more symptoms of depression that can actually help you see if a person (or you) needs to be brought to the doctor to get some help when it comes to depression: lacking sleep, sleeping too much or waking up at wee hours of the morning are all symptoms of depression (if it happens on a daily basis), appetite loss as well as eating too much may show one’s lack of enthusiasm for life. Be weary of sudden weight loss or weight gain in those around you. Being suicidal, talking about death, about wanting to die is another clear indication that that person is depressed. Being restless and irritable and physical symptoms that are usually brought about by poor mental health such as headaches, digestive disorders and various body pains.
"
  quote[5]="
Wellbutrin: A Safe and Effective Depression Medication

Wellbutrin (Bupropion) is an anti-depressant of the aminoketone class. Bupropion is also marketed as Zyban for use as a smoking cessation aid. Most antidepressants available by prescription are of the SSRI class, so Wellbutrin can be effective if common antidepressants fail to combat major depression symptoms. Wellbutrin may, in some cases, also be taken concurrently with SSRI antidepressants.

When Wellbutrin was first introduced onto the market, a high rate of seizures in users caused it to be recalled fairly quickly, and this is still an issue in the minds of those who are considering taking Wellbutrin. However, when the dosage is reduced and spread out over the day, the risk of seizures from taking Wellbutrin can actually be lower than the risk of seizures from other antidepressants. Although no drug is without side effects, Wellbutrin is safer than most SSRI antidepressants. One advantage of Wellbutrin is that it causes no decrease in libido, and in some cases may even increase it. Most SSRI antidepressants can lower or totally eliminate libido.

Zyban is chemically the exact same substance as Wellbutrin except used as a smoking cessation aid rather than as an antidepressant. Zyban therapy is quite effective and lasts a period of twelve weeks. Zyban carries the same risk of side effects as Wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin and Zyban can cause a number of side effects, the most serious of which is the tendency to cause seizures when taken in combination with a great range of any other drugs, prescription or non-prescription. Seizures may also be caused by taking Wellbutrin with alcohol or cocaine. Since Wellbutrin is sometimes combined with another antidepressant such of the SSRI class, it is important to know that there is a risk of seizures when taking Wellbutrin with any other drug. If you have epilepsy or another condition which can lead to seizures, you shouldn’t take Wellbutrin, as it can make seizures more frequent. As with most anti-depressant medication, Wellbutrin can increase instances of suicide and suicide attempts in adolescents who are taking the drug.

Wellbutrin can also cause dry mouth, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, tremors, and excessive sweating. Psychological side effects are a risk as well, as Wellbutrin has been known to cause aggressiveness, insomnia, and irritability. There is also a risk of Wellbutrin causing permanent liver damage, although this is rare. Jaundice and pancreatitis are possible as well, especially if the user has had a history of alcohol abuse.

Taking 150mg of Wellbutrin rather than 300mg of Wellbutrin is a possibility for many who are worried about the risks of side effects, as Wellbutrin still remains effective at this dosage, while the risk of side effects, especially seizures, are reduced.

Wellbutrin is a good choice for those who wish to take antidepressant medication but are worried about the harsh side effects and withdrawal symptoms associated with SSRI and SNRI antidepressants. Although Wellbutrin does have some side effects, they are generally not as serious as the side effects of other antidepressants, and Wellbutrin has no withdrawal symptoms associated with it.
"
  quote[6]="
Paxil Directly Linked to Birth Defects

Recent studies have shown that the use of Paxil during pregnancy increases the chances of birth defects. In December 2005, the Food and Drug Administration moved Paxil from a class C drug to a class D drug. A class C drug is one that has been proven to harm animals; and a class D drug is one that has been proven to harm the human fetus. According to the FDA, a Swedish study was done which proved that women who took Paxil in the first trimester (first twelve weeks) of the pregnancy had two times higher risk in having a baby with some form of birth defect than other women who took another form of antidepressant or non antidepressant medication.

  Some of the harms or birth defects caused by the use of Paxil before or during pregnancy include potential infant heart defects and persistent pulmonary hypertension in newborn babies. During the first trimester of a pregnancy, the babies heart develops. According to medical experts, the most crucial time is during weeks three through seven because this is when the heart is taking the form of four separate chambers.

  In addition to infant heart defects, there are several other potential defects that can result from taking Paxil during a pregnancy. For example, a 2005 research study showed the women who took Paxil during a pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, were more like to have an omphalocele; a birth defect which is a malformation where the abdominal contents protrude into the base of the umbilical cord. A condition known as craniosynostosis; another birth defect which is an early closing of one or more of the sutures of an infant’s head, causing a malformation of the skull is another potential defect that can result from the use of Paxil during a pregnancy.

  Lung disorders are yet another birth defect that can be directly linked to the use of Paxil during a pregnancy. In 2006, the FDA issued an advisory notice saying that infants had problems with adjusting to breathing air when they first came out of the womb, which required them to have some sort of mechanical ventilation to assist with breathing. They claim that this birth defect can also be linked back to the use of Paxil during the pregnancy.

  In conclusion, the FDA has said and proven that there are several birth defects that can be related to taking Paxil medication during the pregnancy. These include birth defects affecting the heart, lungs, and overall development. Women have a higher risk of birth defects, if the Paxil is taken before or during the pregnancy. Many lawsuits are now being initiated because of birth defects which could possibly be the result of taking Paxil medication during the pregnancy. If you have been taking or are currently taking Paxil and you are pregnant, then you should discontinue its use, contact your doctor and seek legal advice right away.
"
  quote[7]="
Is It Possible To Stop Smoking With Prozac?

The effects of smoking can be detrimental to a person’s lifestyle. It can significantly change a person’s appearance by discoloring the teeth, hastening tooth decay, and causing premature aging. Worse, it can also cause a great deal of suffering for people who end up with emphysema or lung cancer because of cigarette smoking. Non-smokers are also not very fond of the odor of cigarette smoke that can stick to a person’s mouth, hair, and clothes. With the threats of cigarette smoking to one’s health, physical appearance, and social life, many smokers aim to kick the habit.

A Habit that’s Hard to Break

Sometimes, a person’s willingness to quit is not enough to combat nicotine addiction. Nicotine, a substance that is found in cigarettes, tends to give smokers a pleasurable feeling that people who are trying to quit tend to crave for when they are stressed out. This craving makes them resort to returning to their old habit. This is the reason why different forms of nicotine replacement theory like nicotine patches and gums are quite common for people who are trying to quit. Unfortunately, the use of these aids is not always effective. Some people tend to look for other options in order to quit smoking.

Stop Smoking With Prozac and Other Anti-Depressants

In some cases, anti-depressants are used to stop smoking. A lot of research has been done on people who have tried to stop smoking with Prozac, Manerix, Seroxat, Lustral and Efexor. Unfortunately, these substances didn’t help people stop smoking. So far, the only anti-depressant that has been approved by the FDA for smokers who want to quit is bupropion which in known under the brand name Zyban. Another substance that is used for the cessation of cigarette smoking is nortriptyline. Although this is proven to be as ineffective as a placebo, many doctors recommend this option to people who cannot quit smoking using nicotine replacement therapy.

Some Side Effects to Consider

Most of the people who tried to stop smoking with Prozac ended up smoking again because it didn’t reduce their withdrawal cravings. Worse, 30% of the people who tried to stop smoking with Prozac ended up experiencing depression. Not only are most anti-depressants unsuccessful in inhibiting nicotine cravings, they have been known to affect the smoker’s appetite and mental health. Most of the time, the taking in of the medication is followed by nausea and mood swings. Even worse, these people end up becoming suicidal. In fact, doctors are advised by the FDA to put people taking anti-depressants under constant supervision just in case their depression becomes worse. It has been found that the tendency for them to harm themselves becomes higher during the first few months of treatment or when the dosage of the medication is changed.

Because of the severe side effects caused by anti-depressants, people who plan on kicking the habit should consider this is a last resort. Perhaps they should try forms of nicotine replacement therapy like nicotine patches and gums first. Smoking cessation is a slow process and should be taken one step at a time.
"
  quote[8]="
Coping With Social Anxiety Disorder Under the Camera’s Eye

Every life lost is a sad loss. Then comes Heath Ledger — a man who lived his life in the public eye. It was like we all knew him — so alive one minute; so uncompromisingly dead the next. A few days after his discovery on the 22nd January 2008, the Medical Examiner’s Report was published. Heath was relying on Xanax to keep him going. Let’s not judge him. Who is to say where the dividing line between genius and madness lies, nor how anyone stays on the right side of that line without help.

   Here was a man at the centre of a perfect storm of expectations. The movie studios pitch their latest offerings to you on the backs of the stars who front them. Just think how much money rides on each star name. It used to be that a movie would only cost a few million. Now the production costs can pass $100m without pausing for breath. How does a young man in his twenties cope with that pressure? In 2000, he and Mel Gibson carried The Patriot at just $110m. Then he was headlining and on the run from the pack of celebrity magazines, gossip mongers and their paparazzi photographers who shred your privacy and compete with each other to catch you in your most unguarded moments.

   The medical profession define social anxiety disorder as extreme anxiety about facing the judgement of others or behaving in a way that might cause you embarrassment or ridicule. How would you react if, everywhere you look or turn, you find a camera’s intrusive lens hoping to catch you in a moment that will sell a million magazines? Even the ordinary becomes the potentially extraordinary depending on how the camera captures it (and how some software package can manipulate it to make it more exploitable). When you know that anything you do or say can and will be misinterpreted for another’s profit, is it any surprise that you reach for Xanax? I think not.

   In fact, the whole movie industry is probably built on Xanax. Feeling nervous or anxious before you set foot outside your front door knowing you’ll be stalked by photographers wherever you go? Take a Xanax. That’s not agoraphobia threatening to keep you hiding away, is it? Take another Xanax. The next magazine you open has pictures of you getting (un)dressed in your bedroom. They were taken with a telephoto lens from the building opposite. That’s not the first sign of a panic attack is it? Draw the curtains and take another Xanax just to keep on living.

   But you need the relationship between public and private to stay blurred. To carry the films, your name has to be on everyone’s lips. You have to be the eye candy for the media voyeurism. Drop from those celebrity magazines and gossip columns, and you’re no longer the bankable star. Where can you buy Xanax without someone taking a picture of you? Buy Xanax online. But Heath lost control, mixed his medications, took too much, and paid the price. Let that be a warning to you all. Stay alive by keeping control of your intake of Xanax and any other medications.

   The one consolation in all this is that, even though Xanax was not able to keep poor Heath going, we still have the next Batman film to look forward to. By all accounts, Heath’s performance as the Joker in the Dark Knight is well worth the price of entry. Although there’s perhaps something inherently ironic about Xanaxman playing the Joker. Here’s a character so completely over-the-top, so excessive in his nature with all that malicious glee bubbling over into destructive energy. Did Heath have to take Xanax to act the part of someone who so obviously doesn’t take Xanax?
"
  quote[9]="
Eating Disorders and Prozac

Prozac is the most common prescribed medication for eating disorders.
There are many opinions about the treatment of eating disorders with Prozac.
Some people say that Prozac was useful for them to fight their eating disorders. But many people report it didn’t make any difference in how they felt and even created more health problems than they had before taking it.

   Why is it that some people get benefits from this medication and some do not? And should Prozac really be a first line medication for eating disorders?

   First, let’s look at the reasons why Prozac as an eating disorder treatment could be effective.
Prozac is an antidepressant. And since up to half of eating disorders sufferers have an additional psychological disorder such as depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder, Prozac can help a sufferer by treating these disorders.
Also, Prozac is designed to restore and maintain healthy levels of a brain chemical called serotonin, which controls mood, feelings and appetite. So, by controlling mood, feelings and appetite Prozac makes a sufferer feel better and more in control.

   So what is the other side to the use of this drug? Not all people who have an eating disorder suffer from depression or have other emotional problems. So, if people take Prozac just to restore and maintain their serotonin level in their brain they develop resistance to the drug and need higher and higher dose of Prozac as time goes by. Then if they stop the medication or decrease the dose they simply slip back to their old eating habits straight away and can also suffer debilitating withdrawal symptoms.

   The question arises: how can we make the use of this medication more effective for more people?

   Most conventional health care professionals believe that the most effective approach is an integrated treatment strategy: one that uses a combination of Prozac treatment with active counseling to treat an eating disorder. But any counseling treatment should include active self-help, self-education and family therapy.

   The problem is many people although on Prozac, fail to control their eating disorder while on their own after returning from the therapist or the clinic, so slip backwards.

   People should not think that they can simply walk into a doctor’s office and be given a pill and that is the end of it; where suddenly the eating disorder disappears overnight.
This is a sure fire remedy for failure.

   If you have been prescribed a pill (like Prozac); you should immediately seek out more education and psychological help regarding your disorder. You have to develop good strategies of self-control, self-evaluation and self-presentation. Without mastering all of these strategies you will always slip back to old eating habits despite the help of Prozac.

   Self-help and self-education are important as they teach the sufferer to act while on their own at home, as the eating disorder lives with you at home and not in the doctor’s office.
I suggest you start your self-education and self-help by reading books. One of the best books about eating disorder management and treatment is at http://www.mom-please-help.com

   In conclusion, it is fair to say that Prozac can be very helpful for some eating disorder sufferers, especially for those who combine it with an active behavioral treatment. But there are many others who will not benefit from it at all: due to individual specifics, wrong consumption or other reasons. So learning more about the disorder and seeking other ways to improve yourself could be the right way to win against your eating disorder.
"
